The Taste of Chinese New Year cooking contest unites legendary Chef Martin Yan and emerging Chef Lucas Sin together, who will combine traditional cooking techniques with their new generation cooking styles to develop a recipe book for fans across the United States.
Each meal resonates with years of tradition, some with a contemporary flair.
This recipe book is part of a month-long celebration that fans have been following via Instagram and culminates with a live virtual cooking demonstration on February 1st where Chef’s Martin and Lucas will cook the perfect holiday meals. Chinese New Year remains the most important occasion for generations of families of Asian heritage living in the US to reunite and spend time together. It only makes sense that such a traditional holiday be celebrated with the authentic Chinese beer, Tsingtao.
WHO
Legendary celebrity Chef Martin Yan
“Yan Can Cook, So Can You!” has always been the motto of Martin Yan, chef extraordinaire and popular television host recognized from Shanghai to San Francisco. Promoting Chinese cuisine, making it easy for the cook and tasty for the guests has been his life-long mission. Born in Guangzhou in Southern China, Chef Yan is technically a second generation ‘culinarian,’ who was first inspired by his mother in the tiny kitchen of their family restaurant.
Emerging Chef Lucas Sin
Lucas Sin opened his first restaurant when he was 16, in an abandoned newspaper factory in his hometown of Hong Kong. Despite spending his Yale undergraduate years in the Cognitive Science and English departments, Lucas spent his weekends running restaurants out of his dorm, known as Y Pop-up. He backpacked and cooked his way through Japan, before settling at Kikunoi Honten in Kyoto. He’s also spent time at Modernist Cuisine in Seattle and Michelin-starred kitchens in Hong Kong and New York.
