Detroit, New England and Minnesota Take Out 78 Percent of Remaining Contenders During Thanksgiving Weekend Games
Winner(s) of Record-Breaking Contest to Take Home Prize Pool of Over $9 Million, No Rake
Las Vegas sports betting brand Circa Sports’ professional football contest, Circa Survivor, has only 80 entrants remaining for the season. After a brutal Thanksgiving weekend, Circa Survivor – boasting the largest payout in a professional football contest ever – saw 78 percent of the remaining contestants fall, taking it from 371 to 80 of the original 9,267 entries.
The last player(s) standing will take home a record-breaking prize pool of $9,267,000 million, no rake.
For Circa Survivor, Thanksgiving weekend was divided into two separate weeks. Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday consisted of one week, and the games on Sunday and Monday were treated separately. There were 371 remaining contenders going into Thanksgiving. Of those, 216 had saved Detroit just for this spot. Detroit was a large favorite over Green Bay, so it appeared to be a good move.
Unfortunately for them, the Detroit defense did not get the job done, and after a 29-22 loss, those 216 were eliminated. This included contestant MOTORCITY, who managed to have all 10 entries reach Thanksgiving, but all 10 were placed on Detroit.
149 entries advanced to the second part of the weekend. The most-picked team was Tennessee, with 46 contestants. Tennessee beat Carolina and advanced. 36 contestants picked New England and 32 picked Minnesota as the next two most popular selections. Both of those teams lost. Along with one contestant who picked Los Angeles, 69 contestants were eliminated in week 12, dropping the total entries to 80.
Last year at this time, there were 71 entries remaining. Two contestants ended up splitting the $6.1 million dollar prize at the end. This year, the prize pool for the winner(s) increased to $9,267,000, with every remaining entry having an implied value of $115,837.50.
In addition to Circa Survivor, Circa Sports is also hosting its popular Circa Million V professional football contest, with $6 million in guaranteed prizes. Each week contestants make 5 picks against the spread and points are awarded for each correct selection and push. There are $300,000 in prizes awarded each quarter.
Currently, CASTLEROCKER-3 is in the lead with a 43-15-2 record, good for 44 points. He is followed closely behind by FEZZIC-2, who has 43.5 points and MATTADOR-3, who has a 41-16-3 record and 42.5 points.
