The Southern Nevada chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) honored Christine Heinrich with its 2021 Women of Distinction Award in the STEM category.
Heinrich received the award on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, where the local NAWBO chapter held its annual awards event. The local NAWBO chapter is one of 60 nationwide and grants Women of Distinction Awards annually in a number of categories.
With an inside and outside sales background in construction and other industries, Heinrich started with Taurean in 2014 as an office manager. The woman-owned enterprise recruits IT professionals for Las Vegas Valley employers and Heinrich was eager to learn more about recruiting.
In a short time, Heinrich moved into a recruiter role and as Taurean’s recruitment manager today is now part of a team striving to meet the needs of local IT departments by recruiting talent on a project basis or for full or part-time job opportunities. Heinrich works with all levels of IT professionals, from help desk and support entry-level roles all the way up to executives and IT leaders and engineers.
“I’ve always had excellent jobs, but there was never a position I’ve had where I became this passionate about it,” she said. “You get to call someone and tell them they have an interview or that they got the job. It’s so exciting to me, and so rewarding, to be there with people going through life-changing situations.”
Heinrich’s dedication to her work is critical, as IT positions are vital to the future of the Southern Nevada economy. In addition to her recruiting efforts, she actively supports local industry groups and nonprofits that work to develop STEM skills and expose locals to career opportunities in STEM fields.
One example is her work with the Las Vegas chapter of Tech Impact, specifically the nonprofit’s “IT Works” initiative. The 16-week program mentors and teaches youth about IT career opportunities. It also helps them earn industry certifications, after which Heinrich and her team help with job placement.
She is also involved with LV Techies, where she meets with high school students to inform them about pathways to STEM careers. More recently, she has worked with PBS’ workforce education program, which helps those transitioning out of other fields into STEM careers.
“I’m so honored to have been recognized for my efforts in doing something I truly enjoy every day,” she added. “I want to keep doing this, to continue my work as someone who every day goes out and tries to find the next right person for this IT community.”
