The North Las Vegas Fire Department (NLVFD) and Southwest Gas celebrated National First Responder Day with a donation of firefighter appreciation bags.
Southwest Gas donated 1,250 bags to fire departments across Southern Nevada. The reusable gift bags, assembled by members of the Southwest Gas employee volunteer group Building Lives Up Everywhere, were stuffed with popcorn, snacks, and supplies for an at-home movie night.
NLVFD Firefighter Anthony “Nino” Galloway accepted the appreciation bags on behalf of the more than 160 firefighters in North Las Vegas.
“On behalf of Fire Chief Joseph Calhoun and all of the firefighters in North Las Vegas, we appreciate the thoughtfulness of the employees at Southwest Gas,” said Nino Galloway, NLVFD Firefighter.
This year, the NLVFD celebrates 65 years of serving the North Las Vegas community. In early 2021, the NLVFD distributed over 100,000 COVID-19 vaccines at large vaccination centers, numerous neighborhood pop-up clinics and in individual homes for the homebound. This was part of the City of North Las Vegas’ broader efforts to increase access to COVID-19 vaccines and testing, especially in areas with low vaccination rates.
Established in 2019 by the U.S. Senate, October 28th sets aside National First Responders Day as a way to honor the men and women putting their lives on the line.
