Las Vegas’ ‘First Lady of Jazz’ Michelle Johnson Presents “Home – A Return to Broadway” September 26

Critically acclaimed vocalist Michelle Johnson returns to the Smith Center on September 26, 2021 with “Home! – A Return to Broadway” … a heart pounding musical revue celebrating the reopening of Broadway and the resilience of the human spirit. The show features some of Broadway’s greatest hits from composers such as George Gershwin, Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein, Harold Arlen, Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, Leonard Bernstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, Sarah McLaughlin, Jason Robert Brown, and many more. 

Michelle Johnson’s soaring vocals, versatile repertoire, and ability to engage an audience in a dynamic, personal, and intimate way have made her a favorite at The Smith Center and in cabarets and performing arts centers across the country, and her consistently sold-out productions have garnered rave reviews. 

Known as “Las Vegas First Lady of Jazz”, she has also performed, toured or recorded with legendary artists including Gladys Knight, Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, and others. Michelle’s liquid voice and unique storytelling style will engage you from the first note to the last. 

The show is backed by an incredible band, with musical direction by three-time MAC Award winning Broadway veteran Mark Hartman, whose credits include Sondheim on Sondheim, Avenue Q, The Fantasticks, Feinstein’s/54 Below, Café Carlyle, Birdland, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and much more. Featuring several surprise guests, Michelle’s feel-good show will have you smiling and singing along to Broadway hits of yesterday and today. Expect to laugh, cry, and leave smiling. 

Michelle Johnson is the recipient of the National Association of Women Business Owners Woman of Distinction Award for her contributions in entertainment, and she is also the 2020 Las Vegas Black Music Awards recipient of the Lena Horne Award for Musical Excellence. Her unique voice, versatility, affinity for languages, and impressive range have made her a rare find in the music business. She primarily grew up in Cairo, Egypt, and then attended and graduated from Yale University. Her original path to Harvard Law School diverged onto a different route when her passion for the entertainment industry won out.
