Today, Girls Athletic Leadership School Las Vegas (GALS LV), an all-girls middle school serving grades 6th-8th grade, had a ribbon cutting for its new campus located at 4220 S. Maryland Parkway (behind UNLV).
GALS provides a safe environment for adolescent girls to receive a college preparatory education that is tailored to their needs. At GALS, girls get empowered to succeed academically, lead confidently, live boldly and thrive physically.
“They find sisterhood here, as some of the students have expressed. The girls support one another, and so it’s a place where they can be themselves. This is a school where it’s cool to get good grades and work to prepare themselves for the future,” said Jennifer McCloskey, the founder of GALS.
GALS first opened last year through the partnership of Boys and Girls Club at UNLV. This first of its kind school in Nevada teaches both STEM and students leadership skills and guides them for future college and career choices.
GALS is currently open for enrollment for 6th – 8th grade. GALS Las Vegas provides a whole-bodied education approach to develop girls physically, academically and emotionally.
Supporters who attended included Nevada Attorney General, Aaron D. Ford, NV energy, Jazz Outreach Initiative, and Silver State Schools Credit Union, whose volunteers also helped put together desks and furniture.
