Iconic Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, philanthropist and entrepreneur Sammy Hagar was presented with the Key to the Las Vegas Strip on Friday, Oct. 4. The prestigious honor commemorated two milestone events: the 15th anniversary of Cabo Wabo Cantina, his rockin’ Strip-side patio and restaurant; and his 77th birthday.
Hagar was accompanied by his wife, Kari Hagar, as Clark County Commissioner James Gibson presented him with a Key to the Las Vegas Strip on Cabo Wabo Cantina’s stunning Strip-side patio, which was met with thunderous applause from the hundreds of dedicated “Redheads” who were in attendance. Hagar’s mark on Las Vegas can be felt throughout Clark County. In addition to the success of Cabo Wabo Cantina, he is an ardent supporter of local non-profits, donating more than $650,000 to various local organizations through The Hagar Family Foundation.
During the celebration, Cabo Wabo Cantina hosted an exclusive fan event, giving Hagar’s “Redheads” a front-row seat to the action. Tickets included prime ceremony viewing and cocktails made with Hagar’s spirits, Santo Tequila, Beach Bar Rum and Red Rocker Lager. Fan favorite cocktails included the Santo Margarita made with Sammy’s Santo Tequila, the signature CW Mai Tai made with Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum, a variety of Sammy’s canned cocktails and Red Rocker Lager. After the ceremony, Hagar headed to Palms Casino Resort for his two sold-out shows to celebrate his famed 77th “Birthday Bash,” which he brought to Las Vegas for the very first time.
With a career spanning over five decades, Hagar has solidified his legacy as one of the most accomplished lead singers and songwriters in rock music. From breaking into the industry with the seminal hard rock band Montrose, to his multi-platinum solo career, to his ride as the frontman of Van Halen to Chickenfoot to his latest best-selling supergroup, The Circle, Hagar has amassed 25 Platinum albums on sales surpassing 50 million worldwide.
