An auto industry veteran is sharing four critical maintenance items every car owner in the Las Vegas Valley should consider as the summer heat ramps up.
Victor Botnari, owner of Universal Motorcars, says it’s important to address issues early so that you don’t have to deal with costly repairs in the middle of the busy summer season.
Have your cooling system checked: When many people hear the words “cooling system,” they think of the vehicle’s air conditioner. But Botnari is referring to the system that keeps your engine from overheating. This system includes the radiator, thermostat and fan, and other components.
Consider an A/C system recharge: For many vehicles, the manufacturer recommends the air conditioner be serviced every two years. A service may run you $150 to $400 and involves a lot more than a visual inspection. The certified mechanic will recover old refrigerant, vacuum the system, and recharge it with new refrigerant. Over time refrigerant is lost, and when it’s not replenished, the compressor works harder than it needs to, and could fail early, Botnari adds.
Replace worn tires: If you have tires with tread depth of 4/32” or less, it’s time to replace them before regular exposure to the summer heat. The heat will force the air in the tire to expand and potentially cause a blowout.
Replace worn belts and hoses: A visual inspection of your engine compartment by a certified technician will reveal if you have any worn belts or hoses. Heat is very hard on all rubber components, and when those under the hood fail while operating the vehicle, it can extremely damaging to your vehicle.
