Vegas Has a Heart is dedicated to preventing sudden cardiac events in young athletes, an issue of critical importance given that sudden cardiac arrest ranks as the number one medical cause of death among student-athletes.
We are hosting a free heart screening event for Las Vegas athletes aged 14-25 on March 23rd at Democracy Prep Agassi Campus.
This event will provide comprehensive heart screenings conducted by volunteers and certified medical professionals, offering athletes the opportunity to be tested for potential heart conditions.
Additionally, the event will include free CPR training for coaching staff and interested parents.
Our main sponsor is Cardiac Insight, the official ECG Provider for Vegas Has a Heart.
Our partners include Dr. Jessica Zarndt, team physician for the Las Vegas Raiders, Dr. Richard Samson, Director of Pediatric Electrophysiology at Children’s Heart Center Nevada, and Dr. Alfred Danielian, Medical Director of Echocardiography and Director of Sports Cardiology at Las Vegas Heart Associates, among others.
Together, we aim to raise awareness, provide essential screenings, and offer aftercare resources to ensure the health and safety of Las Vegas athletes.
The statistics surrounding sudden cardiac arrest in athletes are alarming, with 80% of victims exhibiting no prior symptoms and only a 10% survival rate.
Therefore, we believe mandatory heart screenings for middle school, high school, and collegiate athletes should become standard practice in Las Vegas.
Registration is now open at www.vegashasaheart.org.
Help us raise awareness and potentially save lives within our community.
