The Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, a vehicle for corporate and philanthropic partners to support innovative programs that improve quality of life for all Las Vegas residents with a special focus on vulnerable populations, recently received a $10,000 grant from The Kroger Co., parent company of Smith’s Food and Drug stores located throughout Southern Nevada.
The grant will be used to provide Smith’s gift cards to individuals and families facing economic hardships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and those who may be at risk of losing housing or experiencing homelessness. Gift cards will ensure these individuals and families can purchase groceries as part of the city’s homeless prevention initiatives. This will assist vulnerable and newly-unemployed households, providing them the opportunity to feed their families while they get back on their feet.
The grant is from Kroger’s Zero Hunger l Zero Waste Foundation Emergency COVID-19 Response Fund, an offshoot to the company’s Innovation Fund and social impact plan created to eliminate hunger and food waste while driving positive change in communities it serves.
“Community support is everything,” said Mayor Carolyn Goodman, city of Las Vegas. “Thanks to generous partners like The Kroger Co., we are able to help many in our community dealing with economic hardship and at risk of becoming homeless. The ability to put food on the table is foundational to well-being. We are so grateful for this gift.”
