As schools let out for spring break, some people will be hitting the road. There are a few car checks to keep in mind and some maintenance items to tend to this time of year, says Victor Botnari, owner of Universal Motorcars, 5585 Spring Mountain Road, in Las Vegas.
Botnari says it’s the optimal time of year to travel, but it’s still important to:
Check your tire pressure and the condition of the tires
Top off all fluids and have a mechanic check for any major system leaks
Make sure all routine maintenance like oil and filter changes are completed
Have your brakes inspected; it should be done twice a year
Some common maintenance items are better addressed in springtime, too, Botnari added. This can help you avoid the repair shop during the busy summer months. The spring is a good time to:
Do your summer A/C inspection and maintenance
Have your transmission or cooling system fluid changed, if it’s time
Have your belts inspected and changed now before the hot months
If your car’s thermostat needs to be changed, it’s better to do it now to avoid potential engine overheating
