MATCH SUMMARY:
Lights FC was able to stop a hot start from Phoenix, who in the first ten minutes were aggressive. But Las Vegas was patient, withheld the onslaught, and that paid off with two first-half goals.
Alvaro Quezada fired a strike inside the box during the 31st minute to open the score for the home squad. Cal Jennings extended the lead for Vegas 10 minutes later with a shot from 20 yards out to give the Lights a 2-0 lead going into the halftime break.
Phoenix cut the distance early in the second half with Santi Moar getting his first goal of the 2022 USL Championship season in the 55th minute, stopping Abraham Romero’s streak of 232 minutes without allowing a goal at Cashman Field.
Danny Trejo found the back of the net with his chest off of a perfect cross from Cal Jennings in the 75th minute. This was the third match in a row that both Trejo and Jennings scored goals. Lights FC won each of them.
Phoenix made things interesting by closing the gap between them and Vegas with an Aodhan Quinn score in the 79th minute and pushing their lines forward, but it wasn’t enough.
Lights FC won 3-2, marking their third consecutive victory, first time ever the franchise has won three straight league matches. By adding three points to their season tally on Saturday, Las Vegas is now tied for third place in the Western Conference standings with 25 points.
