The Atomic Museum announces its roster of June public programs and promotions.

All museum events require registration. For more information on the museum’s programs and to register, visit atomicmuseum.vegas/events.

Space Craze Distinguished Lecture
Date: Thursday, June 8
Time: Reception from 5 to 6 p.m.; lecture from 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: Atomic Museum and Zoom.
Cost: General admission is $20 and student admission is $15. Little Boy level members and above are free. To register, click here.

Description: The Atomic Museum invites guests to a distinguished lecture with Dr. Margaret A. Weitekamp, chair and curator for the department of space history at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. Attendees can enjoy a reception at the Atomic Museum followed by Weitekamp’s presentation on her book, “Space Craze: America’s Enduring Fascination with Real and Imagined Spaceflight.” The lecture may also be enjoyed via Zoom.
Speaker: Dr. Margaret A. Weitekamp serves as chair for the space history department at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. In addition, she also curates the museum’s social and cultural history of spaceflight, including a collection of more than 5,000 artifacts across space memorabilia and space science fiction objects. These everyday mementos of the space age—which include toys and games, medals and awards, buttons and pins, as well as comics and trading cards—complete the story about spaceflight told by the museum’s collection of space hardware and technologies. Her 2022 book, “Space Craze: America’s Enduring Fascination with Real and Imagined Spaceflight,” is based on this work.
