While work is something we do to earn a paycheck, a vacation involves disconnecting from that reality while enjoying heavy doses of rest and relaxation.
Americans have long separated the two experiences — until the pandemic. Not long after the first lockdown, workers quickly realized that they could combine the best elements of a leisure vacation with their regular office jobs.
RnR Vacation Rentals has supported this evolution, inviting remote workers to experience an extended stay to experience what has become a national buzzword — the “workcation.”
Mixing business and pleasure with a long-term stay is one of the hottest travel trends today. But renting such accommodations requires attention to detail and knowledge of the destination.
“Booking with RnR always leads to an amazing experience in Tahoe. When we book extended stays, we enjoy life as an integral part of the community. We begin to feel like true locals, and people quickly recognize our names and faces. It is funny, with an extended stay you do not worry about the weather or petty issues, you just take every day as it comes and enjoy it. Whether it is hiking or boating, or just relaxing, we have time to really enjoy a leisurely life. RnR makes all this possible because of their longtime presence in the area, and their amazing customer service. We have always found the houses clean and prepped, with things put away perfectly and very organized. The music is on, it smells good — every detail is always handled. It does not matter if we’re there for 2 days, 2 weeks or 90 days, it’s always the same high level of perfection.” — Robin
Founded in 2013, RnR Vacation Rentals offers a unique mix of experience, local knowledge and technology to bring guests a 5-star experience in South Lake Tahoe.
RnR offers an array of Extended Stay options for guests reserving a home in South Lake Tahoe for 30 to 90 days. These seasonal rentals are ideal for families looking to spend a snow season in the mountains, a summer on the water, or a month-plus working and learning remotely from paradise.
RnR’s portfolio includes many large properties where guests can enjoy their extended families, have friends join on weekends and immerse themselves in the amenities and technology of a well-equipped home away from home.
From humble roots:
Founded in 2013 by the husband-and-wife team of Stu and Diana Roberson. RnR Vacation Rentals evolved from the couple’s own experience renting out their Tahoe vacation home.
“As we stayed busy renting out the home, our neighbors asked if we could help them rent their home, and the company grew organically from there,” said Diana.
Stu and Diana learned early on that existing vacation rental management companies were charging too much for the limited services they provided. They felt those companies did not meet high standards for screening guests, cleaning the home, and generating sufficient revenue. With extensive experience in marketing, technology and business management at large Silicon Valley companies, the couple knew they could provide a better service model.
They now manage 80-plus homes in the area with the help of an incredible RnR team that works to make “happy” happen for guests looking to experience the beauty and majesty of South Lake Tahoe.
Their mission is simple: To run the best little company in the world, providing the best screening, cleaning and attention to detail possible.
RnR became the first in South Lake Tahoe to adopt effective new technologies and marketing strategies. They were first in the area with home automation and secure digital locks, and the first to integrate mobile guest applications and a mobile friendly web site.

RnR’s top 10 reasons to visit South Lake Tahoe this spring
- Spring skiing: At some of South Lake Tahoe’s larger resorts, the ski season is expected to run through April. Be prepared to have the entire mountain to yourself most of the day, returning “home” in the afternoon to wrap up any lingering work duties.
- Waterfalls: Springtime waterfalls offer spectacular sights for the whole family, and you will be living right on their doorstep. Read about the top 5 waterfalls in South Lake Tahoe to get you started.
- Family time: South Lake Tahoe is one of the best places on the planet for family connections. From mountaintops to beaches, there is so much to do, with the spectacular natural beauty right outside your door.
- Gourmet dining: South Lake Tahoe offers an incredible array of restaurants, from fine dining to farm-to-fork. Remote workers can sign off in time for happy hour, followed by a dining excursion that will not soon be forgotten.
- Adrenaline rushes: From rock climbing to downhill mountain biking, South Lake Tahoe offers plenty of heart-racing options. If you are not an adrenaline junkie, take the family on a cable car ride up to the top of Heavenly to enjoy delicious food and stunning views.
- Take a hike: Whether it is an uphill trek or a flat jaunt around the lake, spring and summer are ideal for hikers of all skill levels. Make sure you time it right to catch the sunrise or the sunset.
- Serenity now! Native Americans had a special reverence for Tahoe because of how the mountains reflected off the stunning blue water of the lake. The combination is purely magical, and the only way to experience that magic is to book an extended stay.
- A fresh take: One of the best aspects of an extended stay in South Lake Tahoe is spending several weeks breathing that fresh mountain air. If you hail from a large metropolitan area, the difference can be startling. One deep cleansing breath and you will see.
- The deep blue: Scientists believe that Lake Tahoe was formed more than 2 million years ago. The fresh, visibly turquoise-hued water is remarkably clean and clear. Even from your work window that calming color will get you through the day.
- Live like a local: South Lake Tahoe still holds that small town charm. People here still smile, say hello and make small talk. Again, big-city visitors will especially notice the difference during an extended stay in such a friendly environment.
THE RnR STORY – Stu and Diana Roberson
Riding Silicon Valley’s high-tech wave for 20 years, Stu and Diana Roberson successfully brainstormed their way out of the corporate rat race in 2013.
The college sweethearts, who built lifelong memories with their two daughters during weekend ski trips to Tahoe, founded RnR Vacation Rentals through an organic, hands-on approach to property management.
Leaning on their extensive experience in marketing, technology and business management, Stu and Diana started renting and managing their own South Lake Tahoe vacation home.
“We felt existing vacation rental management companies were charging too much for the limited services they provided,” said Diana. “The existing companies did not meet our high standards for screening guests, cleaning and maintaining the home, and ability to generate the revenue we were expecting. This was our baby, and we didn’t want someone else managing it.”
Stu and Diana began assembling an effective and sustainable rental management model built around lower costs and personal service. Word spread among Tahoe homeowners and the couple started RnR Vacation Rentals slowly taking on local clients searching for alternative rental management solutions.
RnR was born, growing organically through homeowners unhappy with high service charges, hidden costs, unreported damage, lackluster cleaning and ineffective communication
“It wasn’t just the price but quality of home care, that’s what people wanted,” Diana said
Stu and Diana’s professional background proved invaluable. RnR became the first property management company in South Lake Tahoe to adopt effective new technologies and marketing strategies to make homes stand out in a crowded marketplace.
RnR broke new ground with its advanced yield management pricing engines and was the first to integrate mobile guest applications and a mobile friendly web site.
What is more, RnR homes boast home automation including video security, noise monitoring and secure digital locks.
“Stu to this day installs the door locks and video cameras himself,” Diana said. “Owners love Stu. They can call him anytime, he can answer any question about any home, it is crazy. Having that top guy still be in touch with homeowners and available any time is so unique.”
Because RnR focuses on a smaller portfolio of homes, it can pay more attention to each individual home and homeowner, working around the clock to please both guests and owners.
RnR’s mission is simple: To run the best small, family-run company in the world, maximizing revenue for homeowners (it has the highest average daily rate of any competitor) while providing the best screening, cleaning, and attention to detail possible.
Treating every home as if it were their own, the RnR team provides continuous maintenance to uphold its 5-star ratings from guests.
“Most importantly, we have a talented team that reflects our values and our commitment to providing an unmatched guest experience,” said Diana.
“We bring over 50 years of marketing experience to RnR and are lucky to love what we do and live where we love.”
Stu began his career with Osborne Computer Corp., makers of the first commercially successful portable computer in 1981. Through the years he added stops at Electronic Arts, Apple and Interactive Pictures.
Diana started at ComputerLand Corporation before landing at several networking companies including 3Com and Broadcom, where her product marketing specialty became Wi-Fi.
The couple’s roundabout path to South Lake Tahoe property management makes sense given their history. An avid outdoorsman who loved the mountains, Stu grew up in San Jose in an entrepreneurial family, learning his business savvy from his father, who owned a retail clothing store.
Diana grew up an hour from Tahoe in the small town of Portola, before heading to Sacramento to study business at Sacramento State University, where she met her future husband. After Diana accepted a job as the Ski Club Cabin Manager in South Lake Tahoe, the two spent many happy weekends skiing and exploring the area. The couple eventually married in Incline Village, 30 minutes from South Lake Tahoe.
“It is great to be back to where we started, we have strong roots and so many great memories built over a lifetime in Tahoe.,” she said.
